Iran Issues Emergency Use Authorization for Chinese Coronavirus Vaccine

The spokesperson for Iran’s Food and Drug Organization announced the issuance of emergency use authorization for the Chinese Sinopharm coronavirus vaccine in Iran, stating that there are currently no restrictions on its distribution and inoculation.

Previously, conditional authorization for the import and emergency use of this vaccine had been issued, but the IRNA news agency reported on Wednesday, March 11, citing Kianoush Jahanpour, that “following the completion of technical information and documentation and its review by the Food and Drug Organization, emergency use authorization has been issued in the country and there are currently no restrictions on its distribution and inoculation.”

The announcement of the emergency use authorization for the Chinese coronavirus vaccine comes as the country faces international pressure due to allegations of concealment regarding the spread of coronavirus and its origins.

One member of the World Health Organization team that traveled to China last month to investigate the origins of the coronavirus stated that China has refused to provide raw data related to 174 people whose coronavirus infection in Wuhan City was first reported by China.

In the Persian month of Bahman, Iranian media also reported that Iran and Russia have reached an agreement on launching a joint production line for the “Sputnik V” vaccine in the country. Two shipments of this vaccine have so far entered Iran.

The Islamic Republic had previously reached an agreement with Cuba on launching a production line for Cuba’s vaccine in Iran, and Cuba announced that it had signed a technology transfer agreement for the production of coronavirus vaccine with Iran, and the final clinical phase of testing Cuba’s vaccine would be conducted on Iranian people.
