Iran’s Most Deprived Families; Consuming Only 1 Kilogram of Meat Per Year

Details from a survey report on income and expenditure patterns of urban and rural households across Iran show that consumption of certain basic goods, including rice and meat, declined in 1397 (2018-2019).
In 1397, the average consumption of livestock meat in urban households was 4.3 and in rural households was 5.3 kilograms, showing a decline. According to the statistics presented, each Iranian household on average consumed approximately two kilograms of livestock meat per month throughout 1397; however, consumption levels in the more deprived deciles of society are significantly lower than this figure. In the most deprived decile, meat consumption in a year reaches only one kilogram, representing a substantial difference from the overall societal average.
