Attack on Congress: The Final Days of Trump’s Chaos

Who is responsible for the savage assault on the United States Congress? Did the police protecting the Capitol properly carry out their mission? An interpretation from Ines Pohl; Head of Deutsche Welle’s office in Washington.
Ines Pohl, Head of Deutsche Welle’s representation office in Washington, has interpreted the events of Wednesday, January 6th (December 17th) in the capital of the United States.
Stating that “Donald Trump’s attack on the democratic system has reached its peak,” she emphasizes that responsibility for the “rabble’s assault” on the Capitol (Congress building) lies with Donald Trump, but the president’s associates also played an important role in creating the conditions for this incident.
According to Pohl, Trump, by inciting white nationalist extremists, conspiracy theorists, violent groups and bringing them to Washington, has demonstrated that the U.S. government system is also fragile. The head of Deutsche Welle’s representation in the American capital points to those individuals who in recent years have evaluated Trump’s positions as “exaggerated, harmless statements and online noise,” and apparently did not take seriously the depth of their destructive nature.
In this regard, he cites 12 senators and over a hundred members of the House of Representatives who challenged the results of November’s presidential election.
Destruction of the Republican Party
Pohl states clearly that Republicans have been witnesses to the fact that the president, with the characteristics of an autocrat, controls their party and has allowed him to form a government that works only for him and not for the people.
The interpretation continues: “Just days before the inauguration ceremony of elected President Joe Biden, it appears that Trump intends to destroy his own party and wants to destroy the foundations of democracy as well through this.”
Pohl reminds us that Donald Trump has no hesitation in attacking even some of his most loyal associates, such as Mike Pence, to achieve his goals.
He writes: “Trump has explicitly stated that in his view, a good Republican is one who defends his positions to the very end.”
It appears that Trump does not even care about “the republic of his own making,” and if he cannot be its leader, he prefers the country to fall apart.
Police Double Standards
Ines Pohl believes that the Capitol police have not acted successfully because the rioters were able to easily enter the building, break windows, and even briefly seize the office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi.
She writes: “This is while participants in protest movements called ‘Black Lives Matter,’ who marched in Washington in early this calendar year, were confronted with tear gas, batons, and an angry president who sought the arrest of peace-loving citizens, citizens who were exercising their fundamental rights.”
While accusing police of double standards, Pohl says: “If the white protesters are supporters of Trump, they are considered patriots; otherwise, they are dangerous anarchists who must be fought with tear gas and imprisoned.”
Ines Pohl has emphasized at the end of her interpretation: “We are witnessing the final action of a president who is driving his supporters to commit acts of violence.”
One could only hope that the assessment of the head of Deutsche Welle’s representation in Washington proves correct and that Donald Trump, as a final measure and to remain in the White House, does not lead his country into a new war.
