Evin Prison; Continuation of Activist Afasaneh Azimzadeh’s Detention in IRGC Intelligence Ward

Afasaneh Azimzadeh, a children’s rights activist, continues to be held indefinitely in the IRGC Intelligence detention facility known as Ward 2A of Evin Prison seven days after her arrest. Ms. Azimzadeh was arrested on Monday, December 15, 2020, at Milad Hospital in Tehran while she was visiting the hospital to follow up on her mother’s heart condition.

According to Hrana news agency, the news outlet of the Human Rights Activists in Iran coalition, on Sunday, December 20, 2020, Afasaneh Azimzadeh, a children’s rights activist, continues to be held indefinitely in the IRGC Intelligence detention facility known as Ward 2A of Evin Prison seven days after her arrest.

The Azimzadeh family was informed on Saturday, December 19, 2020, after visiting the Evin Prosecutor’s Office, that their daughter was being held in Ward 2A of Evin Prison. Since her arrest, Afasaneh Azimzadeh has only had one contact with her family on Tuesday, December 16, 2020, through a one-minute phone call, during which she stated that one of Evin Prison’s detention facilities was her place of detention and said she has no information about the reasons for her arrest and the charges against her.

Afasaneh Azimzadeh was arrested on Monday, December 15, 2020, by security forces in front of her parents’ eyes. Ms. Azimzadeh’s arrest took place at Milad Hospital in Tehran while she was visiting the hospital to follow up on her mother’s heart condition. Following the arrest, security officials searched her residence and her maternal grandmother’s residence, confiscated some of her personal belongings, and took them with them.

As of the time this report was prepared, there is no information available regarding the reasons for her arrest and the charges against her.

Afasaneh Azimzadeh is one of the founders of the Society for the Defense of Street and Working Children, established in 2003. She has been active for over 15 years in the field of education and assistance for working children.
