At Least 11 Migrants Drown in Tunisian Waters

At least 11 African migrants who were attempting to reach the shores of Italy by crossing the Mediterranean drowned in Tunisian waters on Sunday.

According to Reuters news agency, Tunisia’s coast guard pulled the bodies of 8 women and three children from the waters near the port of Sfax, Tunisia on Sunday evening.

According to Tunisian authorities, around 30 people were aboard a boat that was supposed to take them to Lampedusa island in southern Italy. Tunisia’s coast guard is now searching for other boat passengers who are missing.

Last year, in just one incident, 90 African migrants died after their boat capsized in Tunisian waters, which is considered one of the worst incidents in this country’s maritime territory.
