Iran Appoints Representative for Compensation Payments to Ukraine Flight Victims

Mahri Safari was appointed as special representative of the Road and Urban Development Minister and head of the compensation payment headquarters for the victims’ families of the Ukraine flight. The Iranian government is set to pay $150,000 in compensation to the relatives of each victim of the Ukrainian aircraft.

Mohammad Eslami, the Minister of Roads and Urban Development, appointed a special representative through a decree to handle compensation payments to the families of survivors of the Ukrainian aircraft flight.

In the minister’s decree, it states that “given his commitment and expertise in legal matters,” Mahri Safari is appointed as the minister’s special representative and head of the compensation payment headquarters for the Ukraine flight victims. The decree states that the special representative will follow up on the implementation of the decision to pay compensation to the victims’ families of Ukraine flight 752.

According to this decree, the appointed special representative will present the results of his follow-ups on a weekly and monthly basis.

The Cabinet previously approved in December that compensation for the deceased, without any discrimination due to nationality and citizenship, based on the applicable laws and regulations of the countries of the deceased, be paid to their heirs and survivors.

According to the government’s decision, the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development is obligated to, in cooperation with other institutions, provide the payment of $150,000 or its equivalent in euros to the families and survivors of each of the victims as soon as possible.

The payment of this compensation shall not prevent the pursuit of criminal proceedings on the matter in the competent judicial authority.

The Islamic Republic concealead the shooting down of the aircraft for three days. Eventually, Amir Ali Hajizadeh, commander of the Aerospace Force of the IRGC, admitted to this fact under international pressure and due to irrefutable evidence, calling it “human error.”

Many questions regarding the downing of the Ukrainian aircraft remain unanswered, including questions about the trial of individuals arrested after the shooting down of this passenger aircraft, with the government and judicial authorities maintaining silence.
