Agnes Callamard Becomes New Secretary General of Amnesty International

Agnes Callamard is a recognized figure in the field of human rights. Her investigation into the case of Jamal Khashoggi’s murder brought her to the forefront. Agnes Callamard is remembered as a brave woman, familiar with human rights issues and a persistent investigator.

Agnes Callamard, a human rights expert, has been selected as the new Secretary General of Amnesty International for a four-year term.

This human rights expert, who is French, previously served as the United Nations Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial and arbitrary killings. Callamard was among those who pursued the case of Jamal Khashoggi’s murder.

Sarah Biameh, head of the international branch of this human rights organization, welcomed Agnes Callamard’s readiness to accept this major challenge and stated that Callamard is a woman who can courageously lead this organization in the coming period.

Biameh said that Callamard, with intelligent acuity, clarity of speech, and deep experience in human rights issues, is fully qualified for the position of Secretary General of Amnesty International.

Agnes Callamard’s activities related to extrajudicial killings at the United Nations are not limited to pursuing the case of Jamal Khashoggi’s murder. As a UN Special Rapporteur, she has investigated human rights violations in more than 30 countries worldwide.

Globally, approximately ten million people support and back the activities of Amnesty International. Amnesty International has representative offices in more than 70 countries worldwide.
