Death of Child Laborer While Collecting Waste in Birjand

A 13-year-old child laborer in Birjand drowned in an agricultural reservoir while collecting cardboard and waste materials, losing his life. The body of the child, who went missing yesterday morning, was discovered at noon today after hours of search efforts.
According to Hrana news agency, citing IRNA, the head of the Fire Department and Safety Services of Birjand Municipality announced the drowning of a 13-year-old child laborer in an agricultural water reservoir.
He stated in this regard: “At noon today, following a phone call from the mother of this teenager to the Fire Department’s command center regarding her son’s drowning in a reservoir located in Sejadshahr neighborhood of Birjand, a rescue team from the Fire Department was dispatched to the scene.”
He added: “The lifeless body of the 13-year-old boy, who had been missing since yesterday morning, was found at noon today near his father’s workplace in a water reservoir after hours of search efforts by the family and police. According to the family of this person, who was also a foreign national, he fell into the reservoir and drowned while attempting to collect cardboard and waste materials that were on the water’s surface.”
The lack of strict oversight in the safety measures of pools and agricultural reservoirs has previously caused such incidents.
