Mohammad Nourizad “Returned to Prison Unconscious”

Mohammad Nourizad, a political prisoner, informed his wife in a phone call that he was transferred to a hospital but was returned to prison in a semi-unconscious state without examination, as there was no specialist doctor available.

Mohammad Nourizad, a political activist and critic of the Islamic Republic’s leader who is currently imprisoned, told his wife in a phone call that on Tuesday, September 25, he was taken from prison by car to what was “likely Shahid Talaqani Hospital.”

Accordingly, Nourizad lost consciousness in the car due to weakness and illness. When they arrived at the hospital, there was no specialist doctor, and he was transferred without examination to Evin Prison’s medical ward and then returned to his cell after what was apparently an IV injection.

In an audio file of Nourizad’s conversation with his wife, Fateme Maleki, published on YouTube, he tells his wife: “They sent back an unconscious person in the most cowardly way possible and brought me to Evin’s medical slaughterhouse. They kept me there and I don’t know if they connected an IV, what they did, they returned me. They grabbed my hands and feet and threw me on my bed and left.”

This political activist, who has been imprisoned since June 2019 due to signing a petition calling for Ali Khamenei’s resignation, says that on Tuesday “a hospital the size of Shahid Talaqani Hospital didn’t have a single doctor” to examine him.

Nourizad continues: “This means a major abnormality at the level of the Supreme Leader’s office, meaning a major theft and plunder of the same nature as the Supreme Leader’s office and Mojtaba Khamenei, meaning negligence toward a patient who is a trust, on the scale of the thefts of [Mohammad Baqer] Qalibaf who appears as if he’s from Khuzestan while he himself is a thief and his documents are published on Google.”

Fateme Maleki, Mohammad Nourizad’s wife, told Deutsche Welle Persian on Wednesday, September 26: “Today, in the same condition he’s in, two summonses came for Nourizad. One summons was for him to go to court for ‘proven crime.’ I don’t know what this proven crime is that never seems to end.”

According to Ms. Maleki, the second summons came from Gorgan, where Nourizad had previously been sentenced to one year imprisonment, and now has been sentenced again to another three years imprisonment, with one year pardoned, but he must remain in prison for two years regarding the “Gorgan case.”

Fateme Maleki continued: “In fact, now taking him to the hospital, taking him to the medical ward, taking him to Evin’s medical section… all of this has been a game. Not only has Nourizad’s condition not improved, but his situation has worsened, and they launch these psychological games for him every day.”

On Sunday, August 11, 2019, Mohammad Nourizad gathered with approximately 10 civil and political activists in front of the General and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Mashhad to protest the 13-year prison sentence of Kamal Jafari Yazdi during a retrial hearing. All of them were detained. Jafari Yazdi is another signatory of the petition calling for Ali Khamenei’s resignation.
