Zarif: Iran Will Not Renegotiate on JCPOA

Iran’s Foreign Minister says the United States withdrew from the nuclear deal and this country must remain committed to its obligations. Mohammad Javad Zarif has stated that the text of the nuclear agreement is final and Iran sees no reason to renegotiate.

The messaging between the governments of the Islamic Republic and the United States over the nuclear deal continues. Following the broadcast of an interview between Joe Biden and CBS News correspondent, Mohammad Javad Zarif, Iran’s Foreign Minister, also participated in an interview with Iran’s Channel 2 on Sunday, February 7th.

In this television program, he made clear: “The JCPOA has been finalized considering the Islamic Republic of Iran’s disagreement on other issues, and we will not have further negotiations in this regard.”

Iran’s Foreign Minister implicitly rejected adding Iran’s missile activities and this country’s political performance in the region to future negotiations.

Joe Biden had stated in his interview with CBS News that America’s return to the nuclear agreement is conditional upon Iran’s compliance with JCPOA commitments.

It should be noted that the increase in uranium enrichment to 20 percent is among the matters that have drawn the dissatisfaction of the European troika as well as the United States.

Zarif emphasized in his interview with Iran’s Channel 2 that the United States withdrew from the nuclear agreement and therefore, this country must return to the nuclear agreement.

Iran’s Foreign Minister also emphasized that the United States must “provide guarantees that actions such as those taken by the [Trump] U.S. administration in violating the nuclear agreement will not be repeated.”

Mohammad Javad Zarif has called on the Biden administration to reconsider its approach to the nuclear agreement and remain committed to the obligations stipulated in the 2015 nuclear agreement.
