Protests in Karaj in Solidarity with Khuzestan Demonstrations

Solidarity protests with Khuzestan demonstrations expanded to Karaj after Tabriz and Tehran. “From Karaj to Khuzestan, unity, unity” and “Death to the dictator” were among the slogans chanted by protesters in the Karaj demonstration.

On Monday evening, Mordad 4 (July 26), the people of Karaj, the center of Alborz Province, took to the streets in solidarity with Khuzestan protests, which targeted water scarcity and officials’ mismanagement of water resources.

The Karaj demonstration took place after a rally in Tabriz, where protesters expressed their support for the Khuzestan protesters.

In videos released from Fardin Karaj on social media, chants of “From Karaj to Khuzestan, unity, unity,” “Death to the dictator,” “Reza Shah, may your soul rest in peace,” and “Security forces support, support” can be heard.

Tehran was also a scene of demonstrations before Karaj, targeting the entire system, in which slogans were chanted against Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, including: “Khamenei, have shame, abandon this country!”

Other slogans chanted by Tehran protesters include “Neither Gaza nor Lebanon, my soul is sacrificed for Iran,” “Cannons, tanks, and firecrackers of the mullahs must disappear,” and “Death to the dictator.”

Videos have been released from Alaedin Passage on Republic Street in Tehran and one of the metro stations in this city showing protesters chanting “Reza Shah, may your soul rest in peace.”

Proests over water tension in Khuzestan began on Tir 24 (July 15). These protests, which lasted approximately one week, resulted in the deployment of extensive security forces, establishment of a severe security atmosphere, and casualties, injuries, and arrests.

In the latest developments, a group of journalists and the House of Music issued statements expressing their support for the demands of Khuzestan’s people and condemning acts of violence against them.
