Wage Arrears for Workers of Ahvaz Urban Rail Project

Workers employed in the Ahvaz urban rail project reported that approximately 200 workers in the security, warehouse, and facilities departments are facing wage delays of at least 15 months.
According to Hrana news agency, citing ILNA, workers employed in the Ahvaz urban rail project are demanding wage arrears.
Based on this report, the responsibility for these workers from 2012 until now has been assigned to the same contracting company that is currently implementing the Ahvaz urban rail project. However, as of yesterday, September 21, the Ahvaz Urban Rail Organization terminated the contract and transferred the project construction responsibility to the Khatam al-Anbiya Construction Headquarters.
Accordingly, these workers, currently numbering 200 people, have not received their wages in addition to the 2020 holiday bonus. Their employment status is unclear.
Workers of this construction project stated: “The Ahvaz urban rail project activities have been halted since the final months of 2018, and currently, except for 200 security guards, warehouse keepers, and maintenance workers for machines, generators, and workshop water drainage, no other workers are present at the site.”
According to one of the workers, after several months of wage arrears, workers held several protest gatherings in June of this year, which resulted in some officials promising to address the situation of remaining rail project workers. However, more than three months have passed and the payment of workers’ wage arrears has not been fully resolved.
Stating that the protesters are seeking to recover their claims and clarify their employment status, he added: “The financial hardship and uncertainty of this number of workers in Ahvaz has created many problems for them and their families.”
