Cause of Poisoning of 280 People in Kermanshah Declared as ‘Water Contamination with Sewage’

The head of crisis management in Kermanshah Province states that according to conducted tests, the main cause of poisoning among residents of Sheikhasla village in Salas Babajani County, Kermanshah, was “water contamination with sewage.”

According to the FARS News Agency, Jalil Balai said that after two phases of investigation and testing by the Health Deputy of Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences, “water pollution resulting from contact with sewage has been confirmed.”

Domestic media previously reported the poisoning of 280 residents of this village.

Ibrahim Shakiba, head of the Health Center in Kermanshah Province, also stated in this regard that the spring providing water to the village is surrounded by sewage wells and it is highly likely that microbial contamination entered the village water network through a broken pipe.

He said that the village water chlorination device had been broken for a long time, and ultimately, this malfunction of the device caused insufficient chlorine levels in the village water.
