109 Deaths and 1,642 New COVID-19 Cases Recorded in Iran

Sima Lari, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, announced on Monday, September 1st, that 1,642 new cases and 109 deaths from the coronavirus outbreak were recorded in the country over the past 24 hours.

According to her, the total number of COVID-19 patients in the country has now reached 375,212.

Ms. Lari stated: The total number of deaths from this disease in Iran currently stands at 21,571.

Domestic experts and some official figures, such as some members of city councils and parliament representatives, have questioned the accuracy of official coronavirus statistics in Iran.

Some news sources have also reported that the actual number of coronavirus deaths in Iran by the end of July was around 42,000.

The Health Ministry spokesperson said on Monday that based on the latest coronavirus information in the country, Tehran, Mazandaran, Gilan, Qom, Isfahan, Razavi Khorasan, East Azerbaijan, Kerman, North Khorasan, Semnan, Yazd, Zanjan, and Qazvin provinces are in a red status.

Despite warnings from health authorities about a new wave of coronavirus, reports indicate a surge in travel during Tasua and Ashura holidays to northern provinces.

On Monday, with the hospitalization of 728 coronavirus patients in hospitals in Mazandaran province, the head of Babol University of Medical Sciences said that the results of people’s trips to northern regions of the country will become apparent in two to three weeks.

According to Farzad Jalali, if health protocols are not followed, the country will face difficult days in autumn and winter.
