Coronavirus in Iran: 216 More Deaths, Daily Hospital Admissions Double in Tehran Province

Iran’s Health Ministry spokesman announced on Sunday, July 26, that 216 more people have died from coronavirus infection in the country, continuing an upward trend compared to previous days. This figure was 195 people for Saturday and 215 people for Friday.

Sima Lari also reported the identification of 2,333 new COVID-19 patients in the country over the past 24 hours.

She stated that according to official statistics, the total number of deaths from this disease in Iran has reached 15,700 people and the total number of COVID-19 patients in the country has reached 291,172 people.

Ms. Lari added that 3,695 COVID-19 patients are under intensive care in severe condition.

The official statistics presented by Iran’s Health Ministry have been repeatedly questioned and doubted by parliament representatives, members of Tehran City Council, and media outlets.

In some reports, the number of coronavirus victims in Iran has been estimated at least double the official figures.

Tehran Province Situation

The Health Ministry spokesman continued by saying that in Tehran Province, 9 cities are in alert status and daily hospital admissions in this province have doubled over the past month.

He stated: In Tehran, Pakdasht, Damavand, and Shahr-e Qods cities, the hospitalization rate is increasing at a relatively steep slope; to the extent that in Tehran Province, half of adult intensive care beds are occupied by coronavirus patients.

According to Sima Lari, similar to previous days, Mazandaran, Fars, East and West Azerbaijan, Razavi Khorasan, Alborz, Khuzestan, Lorestan, Golestan, Kerman, Zanjan, and Ilam provinces remain in red status.
