Temporary Release of “Somayeh Rajabi”, Christian Citizen, Upon Payment of Heavy Bond

“Somayeh Rajabi”, a Christian citizen, was temporarily released from Babel Prison upon payment of a heavy bond until the conclusion of legal proceedings.
Somayeh Rajabi was arrested on February 8, 2025 (18 Bahman 1403) after visiting a garden located in “Gotvand” city in Babel County, which was a gathering place for Christians, by security forces. She was accused of “propaganda against the system and society and collusion.” After completing interrogation procedures, she was transferred from the security detention center in Sari County to “Matti Kala” Prison in Babel.
According to a report recently published by the Campaign to Defend Political and Civil Prisoners, on Saturday, March 9, after completing interrogation procedures and being informed of the charges, she was temporarily released from the aforementioned prison upon payment of a heavy bond of four billion tomans until the conclusion of legal proceedings.
Arrest, interrogation, imprisonment, issuance of sentences, and heavy bonds against Christian citizens occur while, according to Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 18 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which the Islamic Republic is also a signatory to, every person has the right to freedom of religion and to change religion with conviction, and also the freedom to express that either individually or collectively and either publicly or in private.
