Children of Narges Mohammadi: Be Our Voice So We Can Hear Our Mother’s Voice

The children of Narges Mohammadi, a human rights activist who has contracted coronavirus in Zanjan Prison, released a video appealing to everyone to be their voice so they can hear their mother’s voice.

Kiana and Ali Rahmani, in a video released by their father Taghi Rahmani on Monday, July 20, say they have not been able to hear their mother’s voice for eleven months.

Narges Mohammadi, who has been sentenced to 16 years in prison, was transferred from Evin Prison to Zanjan Prison on December 4 of last year. She is accused of “assembly and conspiracy with intent to commit crimes against national security,” “propaganda activities against the system,” and organizing the “Step-by-Step Abolition of Executions” campaign.

Recently, news emerged that she and several of her cellmates have contracted coronavirus, prompting around 500 Iranian political activists to send a letter to the head of the judiciary requesting medical furlough for her and other inmates infected with the disease. However, these requests have so far gone unanswered.

Following her infection with the virus, Narges Mohammadi wrote in a letter from prison: “During this period, under orders from the Ministry of Intelligence and the judiciary, I have even been prevented from buying meat with my own money. I have been denied access to books and telephone calls with my children abroad, and I have not heard my children’s voices for nearly a year.”
