“Unprecedented and Critical” COVID-19 Situation in Ardabil and Mazandaran

The Deputy Director of Treatment at Ardabil University of Medical Sciences, referring to the admission of 330 patients in a single night shift at Imam Khomeini Hospital in Ardabil, said: “We have an unprecedented and critical situation.”

MohammadReza Rezaeibana, who spoke with the Farsi News Agency on Sunday evening, July 20, reported that the hospital’s capacity has been filled and two additional hospitals have been added to accommodate COVID-19 patients.

Referring to the fact that some COVID-19 patients “lost their lives upon arrival at the emergency department,” he said: “The highest number of deaths are among people born in the 1980s and 1990s.”

In Mazandaran Province, the COVID-19 outbreak situation has also been declared critical. According to Abbas Mousavi, the head of Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences, 339 patients have been hospitalized in the province’s hospitals in the past 24 hours.

Health Ministry officials in recent days have been making efforts to contain the second wave of COVID-19 in Iran by making masks mandatory, implementing certain restrictions, and urging people not to hold religious, cultural, and family gatherings.
