Tehran Revolutionary Court Sentences Seven Political Activists to Prison

Reports indicate that Branch 29 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court has sentenced seven political activists to prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, Frangis Mazloum, mother of Soheil Arabi, has been “sentenced to six years imprisonment, Hani Yazarlou and his son Hood Yazarlou each to one year imprisonment, Mohammad Vali Ghalam Nejad, Seddiqeh Moradi, Mehdi Khavass Sefat and Zahra Akbari Nejad Darche each to 95 days of punitive imprisonment.”

According to this report, Hassan Atarzadeh, another defendant in this case, has been acquitted of the charges against him.

HRANA states that Tehran’s Revolutionary Court issued its ruling against Frangis Mazloum in absentia.

Should the court ruling against Ms. Mazloum become final through the Appeals Court, according to Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, a sentence of five years of punitive imprisonment will be enforceable against her.

Soheil Arabi was arrested in 2013 by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps for posts published on his Facebook account and was initially sentenced to death on charges of “insulting the Prophet.” He was later sentenced in court to seven and a half years imprisonment due to his writings, “two years of religious studies to prove repentance” and “two years of travel ban.”
