Official COVID-19 Statistics in Iran; Death Toll Higher Than Previous Days

According to statistics from Iran’s Ministry of Health, with the death of 211 more coronavirus patients in the past 24 hours, the official death toll from the virus in Iran has reached 26,380 people, showing an increase compared to previous days.

Simultaneously, Iran’s President announced the imposition of penalties commensurate with violations of health regulations at three levels: government offices, trades and private businesses, and public spaces.

Sima Lari, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, on Thursday, October 1st, reported in her daily briefing the identification of 3,825 new COVID-19 patients and stated that currently more than 4,100 patients are under special care due to severe conditions of the disease.

According to this official report, the total number of coronavirus patients in Iran has also exceeded 461,000 people.

The accuracy of daily and official statistics announced by the Ministry of Health has consistently been seriously questioned by some independent experts, and some sources say that the number of cases and deaths in Iran is between two to several times higher than the official figures.

Today, Hassan Rouhani, Iran’s President, in a meeting with heads of committees of the National Coronavirus Combat Headquarters, while emphasizing the necessity of imposing required penalties to ensure compliance with health guidelines, stated: “Penalties commensurate with violations at three levels—government offices, trades and private businesses, and public spaces—will be applied.”

According to Mr. Rouhani, specific fines have been determined for individuals who disregard health protocols at any of these levels.

According to the Ministry of Health’s announcement, the current status of Tehran, Isfahan, Qom, East Azerbaijan, South Khorasan, Semnan, Qazvin, Lorestan, Ardabil, Khuzestan, Kermanshah, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, Gilan, Bushehr, Zanjan, Ilam, Razavi Khorasan, Mazandaran, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, Alborz, West Azerbaijan, Central, Kerman, North Khorasan, Hamadan, and Yazd provinces remain red.

Four provinces of Kurdistan, Hormozgan, Fars, and Golestan are still in warning status.
