Coronavirus in Turkey: Exit from Home Banned for People Over 65 Years Old

Exit from home has been banned for people over 65 years old and the sick due to the risk of coronavirus infection in Turkey. The majority of coronavirus victims in the country have been elderly people. The number of people infected with coronavirus in Turkey has reached 947.

Turkey’s Ministry of Interior banned people aged 65 and above from leaving their homes by sending a tweet from midnight on Saturday, April 24, without providing further explanation.

Elderly people, especially those with a history of chronic diseases, are at greater risk of contracting coronavirus. Among this age group, the coronavirus can easily develop into COVID-19 lung disease.

Turkey has a population of 83 million. According to Turkey’s Statistics Institute, the number of people over 65 years old has increased by approximately 22 percent over the past five years in the country and has reached 7 million 550 thousand people. These individuals constitute about 9 percent of Turkey’s total population.

Fakhreddin Koca, Turkey’s Minister of Health, also announced on his Twitter account on Saturday, April 23, that 12 more coronavirus patients died in the country, all of whom were elderly people. In total, by Saturday, April 23, 21 people had died in the country from the coronavirus.

Turkey’s Minister of Health said: “All the deceased were elderly, and for this reason we must warn older people to adhere to home exit restrictions.”

According to Turkey’s Minister of Health, on Saturday, April 23, the number of people infected with coronavirus in Turkey reached 947.

Turkey has considered many measures to prevent further spread of coronavirus. In addition to closing many stores, the country has banned prayers and other ceremonies in mosques. Many international flights, including to European countries, have also been suspended.
