Official COVID-19 Statistics in Iran: Over 17,000 Cases and More Than 1,000 Deaths

According to official statistics, a total of 17,361 people in Iran have been infected with coronavirus and 1,135 have died. In just the past 24 hours, 192 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Iran. 147 people have also lost their lives during this period.
Alirez Raeesi, Deputy Minister of Health and Medical Education of Iran, announced today, Wednesday, March 28, that 192 new cases of coronavirus have been identified in Iran over the past 24 hours. Accordingly, the number of COVID-19 cases in Iran has reached 17,361.
According to this official statistics, 147 patients died during the same period, bringing the total death toll from coronavirus to 1,135.
Raeesi, complaining about the public in some provinces, said: “Today everyone is aware of the disease caused by coronavirus, but many do not take it seriously. In Tehran we see that the markets are crowded. We remind people to stay at home, but people are heading toward the north of the country.”
The Deputy Minister of Health emphasized that if people cooperate over the next two weeks, the disease can be controlled, otherwise this period will extend to two months.
This official stated clearly that “the situation is not good at all” and said that the coronavirus is highly contagious and harmful.
Raeesi, referring to the actions of some European countries that fine people if they leave their homes, said: “In Iran, given cultural conditions, we have encouraged people to stay at home and avoid gathering in public.”
The debate about quarantining cities has been raised since the outbreak of coronavirus in Iran and has always faced opposition from government officials. Offices, shops, and stores have not been closed.
