Death toll from coronavirus in China exceeds three thousand; state of emergency declared in California

China’s Health Commission announced on Thursday that with the death of 31 additional people, the death toll from the coronavirus in the country has reached 3,012. In the U.S. state of California, a state of emergency has also been declared to combat the coronavirus.

China’s Health Commission reported the number of coronavirus cases in the country as 80,409.

South Korea also said that with the identification of 438 new cases, the total number of coronavirus cases in the country has increased to 7,766.

South Korea’s Disease Control and Prevention Center also stated that with the death of three additional people, the death toll has reached 35.

Rise in deaths in America

Meanwhile, the number of deaths from coronavirus, COVID-19, in America on Wednesday, March 4, increased to 11.

Ten people in Washington state have died and one person has died in California.

Hours after it was announced that one person had died from coronavirus in California, a state of emergency was declared in that state. At the same time, the U.S. House of Representatives approved emergency aid of $8.3 billion to combat the coronavirus.

Gavin Newsom, governor of California, announced that the number of coronavirus cases in the state exceeds 50.

The California governor said that by declaring a state of emergency in the state, resources can be better allocated to combat this virus.

The Placer County Health Authority in California says that a person who last month contracted coronavirus after returning from a cruise vacation from Mexico died on Wednesday. This was the first death outside Washington state.

In a statement, Placer Health Authority clarified that this person contracted the virus during his cruise on the Princess cruise ship from Mexico to San Francisco.

In Seattle, Washington state, the number of cases increased from 27 to 39 on Wednesday.

Most coronavirus cases in Washington state were somehow linked to residents of the Kirkland nursing home on the outskirts of Seattle. Reuters says at least six of the coronavirus victims in Washington state were from the Kirkland care center.

In New York state, the number of COVID-19 cases on Wednesday was reported as 10. Andrew Cuomo, governor of New York, announced that tests for three members of one family and their neighbors came back positive.

Andrew Cuomo also said that two families infected with coronavirus live in the Westchester area. According to him, approximately one thousand people in the area have quarantined themselves.

CNN says at least 159 people in America are infected with coronavirus.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives passed a bipartisan emergency bill supported by Republicans and Democrats to allocate $8.3 billion in budget for the government to combat the spread of coronavirus.

The bill is set to be approved by the Senate on Friday.

The World Health Organization also announced that the mortality rate from coronavirus globally, contrary to previous predictions, is 3.4 percent. This organization previously reported the coronavirus mortality rate as 2 percent.
