A Physician in Iran Says Medical Staff Are Under Pressure to Report False Statistics About Coronavirus Death Toll

A physician working at a hospital in Shiraz has provided an account on condition of anonymity, saying that of every five deaths caused by the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, only one is reported with the actual cause of death.
According to this physician, they have been asked to report causes of death for the majority of coronavirus victims as conditions such as acute respiratory disease or heart attack.
He also complained of severe shortages of supplies available to medical staff, saying they have only three masks available for every 24 hours.
As of Wednesday, April 1, 2020, the authorities of the Islamic Republic officially announced 3,036 deaths and the total number of confirmed cases reached 47,593. These figures come as a World Health Organization official stated that the figures reported by Iranian authorities regarding coronavirus cases represent only one-fifth of the actual number of those infected.
