American Network’s Take on Iran Elections; Youth Don’t Participate and Consider It ‘a Joke’

The American television network CNBC has reported on the upcoming parliamentary elections in the Islamic Republic, writing that these elections are dominated by hardliners while Iranian youth have refrained from participating in Iran’s elections and even consider the very existence of parliament under current conditions to be “a joke.”
This report, published on Wednesday, February 19, states that 7,148 candidates are competing for 290 parliamentary seats; however, many young people in the country, particularly in Tehran, have said they will stay home and not vote.
Several youth around 20 years old told this network’s correspondent that elections don’t change anything and therefore won’t participate in them. One young person said: “They make decisions about everything in advance without considering parliament. Therefore, participating in parliamentary elections doesn’t change anything.”
The Islamic Consultative Assembly parliamentary elections are scheduled to be held on Friday, March 1.
