Sharp Surge in Corona Cases; 15,000 People in One Day

The death toll from the respiratory disease coronavirus, COVID-19, in China increased by 242 people in one day, reaching 1,350 people. The number of confirmed cases of this disease also increased by nearly 15,000 people in just one day and surpassed the 59,000 mark.

Chinese government officials had reported in recent days a slowdown in the spread of coronavirus. The number of confirmed cases of this disease had even dropped to fewer than 3,000 people per day. Now a report has been released by officials of this country indicating a sharp surge in the number of deaths and cases of coronavirus disease.

Wednesday, the 23rd of Bahman (February 12) was the deadliest day since the outbreak of the respiratory disease coronavirus in Hubei Province and Wuhan city. In a single day, 242 people were reported to have died from this disease.

The same report indicates that confirmed cases of this disease increased by 14,840 people in one day. Accordingly, the number of people infected with coronavirus, or COVID-19, has surpassed the 59,000 mark.

The new statistics on coronavirus cases have been released by China’s state television. Given the sharp surge in the number of coronavirus cases, the World Health Organization has warned against optimistic predictions about controlling and containing this disease.

The Health Commission of Hubei Province announced that the criteria for diagnosing coronavirus have been revised and supplemented, which is why the number of confirmed cases has increased. This is despite the fact that the Health Commission officials of this province have not disclosed what criteria were previously used for examinations and what changes have been made.

It should be noted that medical experts and the World Health Organization had criticized China’s method of reporting coronavirus cases.

Removal of Communist Party Chief in Hubei

In connection with the increasing number of coronavirus cases in Hubei Province, Jiang Chaoliang, leader of the Communist Party of Hubei Province, has been removed from office.

It is reported that Ying Yong, former mayor of Shanghai, has taken over as head of the Communist Party office in this province. The news of the reshuffle in the Communist Party office of Hubei Province was announced by China’s official news agency, Xinhua.

Speculations about the extent of coronavirus spread suggest that the unreported and unconfirmed cases of this disease in China exceed the figures the government provides. One of the reasons for such speculation is the lack of examination and testing facilities for suspected cases of this new virus.

Confirmed cases of coronavirus outside China’s borders have also exceeded 500 people. 16 people in Germany are also infected with this disease.

In connection with the possibility of further spread of coronavirus globally, two major events were canceled on Wednesday, February 12.

Organizers of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona announced the cancellation of this conference. The Mobile World Congress was scheduled to be held in late February.

On the other hand, it has been announced that the Formula 1 auto racing competition scheduled to be held in Shanghai has also been canceled by officials.
