Kurdistan Human Rights Network: Three Detained Male Students Subjected to Sexual Harassment During Protests

The Kurdistan Human Rights Network has reported sexual harassment of detained teenagers in Marivan during the protests of the last week of Aban this year, announcing that “sexual harassment and threats of rape against three male students” have been confirmed so far.

The network reported on Sunday, December 29, that “a large number of children under 18 years old who were detained during the protests on the 25th and 26th of Aban in the city of Marivan” were subjected to “severe psychological and physical torture” in IRGC detention centers for several days.

According to the report, “at least three male students were threatened with rape using tools such as batons and were simultaneously subjected to sexual harassment. These three students were released on bail after several days and were threatened by security interrogators that they must not discuss the physical torture and sexual harassment with anyone under any circumstances.”

Reports from human rights organizations and news sources indicate that the suppression of protesters in Kurdistan and Khuzestan provinces was more severe than in other regions, and the city of Marivan had some of the highest figures for deaths and detentions.

The detention of protesters in various provinces across Iran continues, and despite more than forty days having passed since the protests, the Islamic Republic authorities are still unwilling to announce the number of those killed and detained.
