First court session for one of the accused in 1988 executions held today in Sweden

Swedish border police arrested an Iranian on Saturday, November 9, who is said to be one of the accused in the 1988 executions. The identity of this person was announced today, Wednesday, November 13, by the Swedish judicial system.
The Swedish judicial system announced on Wednesday, November 13 (November 13) the identity of a person who had been arrested by the country’s border police the previous Saturday. This person is named “Hamid Nouri” who was previously known by the name “Abbasi”.
Hamid Nouri’s identity was revealed during the first court hearing and indictment notification session in Sweden.
According to Iraj Mesdaghi, a human rights activist and former political prisoner, “Hamid Nouri” also known as “Abbasi” was the prosecutor of Gohardasht Prison in Karaj and one of 8 members of the “Execution Committee” in this prison during the mass executions of political prisoners in 1988. Hossein Ali Nairi, Morteza Eshraqi, Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi, Ebrahim Raisi, Esmail Shousteri, Mohammad Moghisseh (Naserian), and Davoud Lashkari were other members of the “Execution Committee”. This committee was formed by order of Ayatollah Khomeini.
After the executions, Hamid Nouri continued his work as prosecutor of Evin Prison. Iraj Mesdaghi told Deutsche Welle Farsi: Hamid Nouri subsequently engaged in activities in the Ministry of Intelligence of the Islamic Republic and has very close relations with Ebrahim Raisi, head of the judiciary, Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi, former minister of justice, and Ali Fallahian, former minister of intelligence.
The Swedish judicial system arrested “Hamid Nouri” following up by Dr. Kaveh Mousavi, defense lawyer and senior legal advisor of the “Transitional Justice Board”.
Kaveh Mousavi said that after Iraj Mesdaghi informed him about Hamid Nouri’s trip to Sweden, he obtained an arrest warrant for Nouri which was enforceable throughout European judicial jurisdiction, and Stockholm border police arrested him upon his entry into the city.
According to Iraj Mesdaghi, the Swedish court today, despite attempts by the Islamic Republic, extended Hamid Nouri’s temporary detention for another four weeks.
Iraj Mesdaghi, who was present in court during the indictment notification for participation in the massacre of political prisoners in 1988, told Deutsche Welle Farsi that the accused appeared very agitated and anxious in this session, to the extent that his hands were visibly trembling.
According to some reports, the judge of this court was previously a judge in the court investigating war crimes and crimes against humanity in Rwanda.
This is the first time that one of the officials of the Islamic Republic has been arrested and tried outside the country on charges of involvement in the mass executions of political prisoners in 1988.
Previously, a number of families of the executed, accompanied by a group of defense lawyers, lawyers, and Iranian and international human rights activists, held a symbolic court during the “Iran Tribunal” campaign in The Hague, the seat of the International Court of Justice.
According to the organizers of that court, the Islamic Republic left all invitations to respond to accusations and participate in the court session unanswered.
