France Calls Iran’s Threat to Speed Up Uranium Enrichment Concerning and Urges Tehran to Return to JCPOA Commitments

On Wednesday, October 24, France called on Iran to return to its JCPOA commitments and described Tehran’s recent threat to accelerate its uranium enrichment program starting next month as “particularly concerning.”
According to Reuters, France’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson said in a daily press briefing that “Iran should avoid moving to a new stage, which is particularly concerning, and taking new measures that could help escalate tensions.”
The Islamic Republic has said it will implement this decision starting November 6, and according to Reuters, diplomats are concerned that this decision will force European powers, who are trying to save the JCPOA, to respond.
The United States says the nuclear agreement with Iran, known as the JCPOA, and the lifting of sanctions have not had a positive impact on the behavior of the regime governing this country.
President Trump, by withdrawing from the JCPOA in April 2018, issued orders twice in August and November of last year to reinstate nuclear sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Trump administration has exerted maximum pressure on Iran over the past year and has stated that the Iranian regime must behave like a normal country and must cease its efforts to acquire nuclear weapons, its extensive missile program, support for terrorism, and other provocative actions.
