Yasmin Aryani Transferred to “IRGC Intelligence Ward” in Evin Prison

Yasmin Aryani, a civil activist who has been sentenced to more than sixteen years in prison for opposing mandatory hijab, was transferred Saturday evening from the women’s ward to the IRGC Intelligence Ward (known as Ward 2A) in Evin Prison.

The human rights news agency “Hrana” reported that Yasmin’s father, who visited Evin Prison on Sunday for a visit, was informed that his daughter was transferred to Ward 2A last night.

Yasmin Aryani, her mother Manirah Arabshahi, and Mozgan Keshavarz were arrested after a video was released showing them distributing flowers to subway passengers in Tehran without headscarves on International Women’s Day. They were collectively sentenced to more than 55 years in prison.

These harsh sentences have faced international reactions, and a spokesperson for the U.S. State Department also condemned them.
