At one of Berlin’s U-Bahn stations, a 30-year-old Iranian man was killed after being pushed from the platform onto the railroad tracks. Police initially arrested one suspect who has since been released. Now another person has been arrested.
German investigators arrested another man following the death of an Iranian man at the U-Bahn station in the Kreuzberg district of Berlin.
According to the ntv website, German prosecutors say the arrest took place on Saturday evening, November 2nd. Prosecutors added that they cannot provide further information at this time.
However, German newspaper Bild reports that the arrested man is 26 years old. The newspaper wrote that investigators found leads related to drug trafficking in their investigation of this criminal act.
Initially, another man was arrested who was later released. Eyewitnesses have provided contradictory statements. Additionally, the quality of surveillance camera footage at the scene is average.
Martin Steltner, spokesman for the German Federal Prosecutor’s Office, says that investigations in this case will continue meticulously.
On Wednesday evening, November 8th, a 30-year-old Iranian man was pushed from the platform onto line 8 train at the Kottbusser Tor U-Bahn station as it was entering the station. The severity of his injuries was such that he died on the spot. Police say that prior to this, the man and someone accompanying him had a confrontation with a large group to which the perpetrator belonged.
On Saturday, police announced that review of video footage, extensive investigations, and eyewitness statements led officers to a suspect who was arrested and subsequently released.
Brandenburg police arrested the man on Friday evening at Eberswalde main railway station and handed him over to Berlin police. The man offered no resistance when arrested.
Investigators continue to examine the background of the altercation at the Berlin U-Bahn station. However, findings so far indicate that the dispute was connected to drug-related crimes.
Prosecutors have also mentioned the strengthening of leads related to drug trafficking that may lie behind this incident.
Police say the victim lived in Berlin and was known to police because he had previously been involved in drug-related cases.
The Kottbusser Tor train station in Berlin, which Berliners also call “Kotti,” is classified by police as a special area due to numerous crimes that have occurred there. For decades, drugs including heroin have been sold at this location.
