Power Cut at Dozens of Iran’s ‘Sensitive’ Centers During Drill

The power supply to 11 ‘sensitive’ centers in Tehran was cut for several minutes on Sunday, November 3, during the ‘eighth power cut drill.’

According to a report by the Civil Defense Organization, the power supply to the National Iranian Gas Company, the metro traffic system, refinery and distribution dispatching (the country’s fuel system), Jalaliyeh water treatment center, Tehran Municipality Crisis Management Organization, Tehran Electricity Distribution Company, Imam Khomeini microwave, Civil Defense Organization, traffic and road management system, and the Central Bank data center was cut for several minutes.

According to the report, power cut drills at sensitive centers were conducted in all provinces across the country.

However, the report did not specify the number of centers that had their power cut in other provinces.

Nevertheless, Iranian news agencies have published reports about power cuts at several ‘sensitive’ centers in other provinces across the country.

According to Iran’s IRNA news agency, during this drill, power was cut to 14 sensitive points in the city of Mashhad.

In reports published by Iranian media, no reason was given for holding this drill. Power cut drills are usually conducted to prepare for war conditions.

Iran’s Civil Defense Organization announced the holding of the ‘eighth power cut drill’ while previous drills had not been publicly announced.

Gholamreza Jalali, head of the Civil Defense Organization, also said during this drill that government agencies should have power generators.

Previously, an internet shutdown drill was also conducted.

In this regard, Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi, Minister of Information and Communications Technology, announced on May 19 the holding of 142 tests aimed at ‘verifying independence’ of the national information network in case of internet shutdown.

Mohammad Reza Farji Pour, deputy commander of the Cyber Command of the Civil Defense Organization, said on Saturday that the ‘internet shutdown drill’ was conducted by order of Hassan Rouhani, the Islamic Republic’s president.
