Latest Global Economic Freedom Report; Iran Ranks 143rd

Canada’s Fraser Institute released its latest report on economic freedom in the world on Thursday, September 21; Iran has been ranked 143rd in this report.

This report examined the economic conditions of 162 countries in the world during 2017.

In this report, Hong Kong and Singapore were cited as the most economically free countries, while Venezuela and Libya were mentioned as the two countries at the bottom of this ranking.

The two Asian countries Hong Kong and Singapore also held the highest ranks in reports from previous years; Hong Kong has held the first position in the global economic freedom ranking since the 1980s.

In the Fraser Institute’s new report, after these two countries, the countries of New Zealand, Switzerland, United States, Ireland, Britain, Canada, Australia, and Mauritius in Africa rank respectively.

The 10 countries with the least economically free economies are respectively: Venezuela, Libya, Sudan, Algeria, Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo, Syria, Egypt, Republic of Congo, and Iraq.

Iran ranks 143rd in this table, which has not changed compared to the 2015 report. Iran’s ranking in the 1980s and 1990s was 99.

The Fraser Institute in this ranking considered factors such as the size of governments, taxes, property rights, and the extent of freedom in international trade.

Countries that hold the highest ranks also enjoy greater civil and political freedoms, and gender equality in these countries is also greater.

Furthermore, the people of countries at the top of this ranking have an average life expectancy of 79.5 years, whereas the average life expectancy in countries at the bottom of the ranking is 64.4 years.

The ranking of some other important countries in the Fraser Institute’s report is as follows: Japan (17), Germany (20), Italy (46), France (50), Mexico (76), India (79), Russia (85), China (113), and Brazil (120).
