Leila Hosseinzadeh, a student who was previously sentenced to 30 months in prison on charges of assembly and conspiracy and propaganda against the system, has been transferred to the women’s ward of Evin Prison to serve her sentence.
Amir Raeisyan, the lawyer of Leila Hosseinzadeh, a detained student, confirmed on Monday, the 14th of Mordad, by posting a message on his Twitter account, the news of the transfer of this student activist to the women’s ward of Evin Prison to serve her prison sentence.
Leila Hosseinzadeh, a student at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Tehran University, is among the students arrested in December 2017 who has been sentenced to 30 months in prison on charges of “assembly and conspiracy” and “propaganda against the system.”
The announcement of the final conviction of Ms. Hosseinzadeh, in addition to student protests, was followed by numerous criticisms on social media. Some users wrote in their messages that Leila Hosseinzadeh’s sentence shows that the judicial branch’s conduct has not changed since Ibrahim Raisi’s presidency.
Over the past year, harsh sentences imposed on students arrested in those protests have drawn criticism from students, professors, and human rights activists.
