A Teachers’ Labor Activist Arrested in Kurdistan

Mokhtar Asadi, a member of the Kurdistan Province Teachers’ Professional Association, was arrested by security forces in Sanandaj city in Kurdistan Province.
Hrana has reported that Asadi was arrested on Thursday, February 14, 2019, and transferred to an undisclosed location. Security officials did not present an arrest warrant to him, and there is no information about potential charges or his place of detention.
Yesterday, teachers’ labor activists held protest gatherings in several different cities across Iran, including Sanandaj and Marivan. They called for attention to their professional demands and the release of imprisoned teachers.
Mokhtar Asadi had previously been sentenced to one year in prison and was released in June of the current year after completing his sentence.
