Discovery of an ‘Iranian’ Tunnel at the Syria-Iraq Border

Israeli and American media outlets have reported the discovery of a tunnel built by Iranian forces at the Syria-Iraq border. According to reports, the tunnel was constructed to store advanced weapons and military vehicles.

On Tuesday, December 10 (November 10), the newspaper Haaretz and Fox News network reported that intelligence company ImageSet International captured satellite images showing a large tunnel at the “Imam Ali” military base on the Syria-Iraq border.

According to these reports, the border tunnel is between four to five meters wide, though its length remains unknown.

Given that the terrain in this area is flat and hard, experts have suggested that the tunnel is unlikely to be expanded in the future.

It is believed that the “Imam Ali” base tunnel may have been created to protect advanced weapons and large vehicles against aerial attacks.

The “ImageSet International” company monitors specific areas and targets for Israel.

Attack on “Imam Ali” Base

News of the “Imam Ali” base’s construction by the IRGC Quds Force near the “Bukamal Al-Qaim” border crossing was first reported in September by the American network Fox News.

A week later, forces opposing Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria reported that unmanned aircraft attacked Iranian-backed militias in eastern Syria. Some media outlets reported that Israeli drones had bombed the “Imam Ali” base.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights in London, 18 people were killed in the attack.

Just days before this attack, Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s Prime Minister, had threatened that “Iran will not be safe anywhere” and that the Israeli military would take action against Islamic Republic positions “wherever necessary.”

Naftali Bennett, Israel’s Defense Minister, also said days earlier to Islamic Republic officials: “Syria will be your Vietnam.”
