Families of Victims of Ukrainian Plane Crash: Islamic Republic Has Made International Laws a Mockery

The Association of Families of Victims of the Ukrainian passenger plane from Tehran to Toronto, which was shot down by IRGC air defense missiles, rejected the emphasis of Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization on the factor of “human error” in shooting down the plane in a statement, and Hamed Esmailian, the spokesman of the association, also asked media outlets to refrain from using the term “accident” to describe the IRGC’s firing at the passenger plane.
In this statement, the families of the victims referred to the recent report of the Civil Aviation Organization and announced that this report attempts to reduce this “complex and multi-layered” attack to the level of “human error” at the air defense site.
In this statement, referring to the reasons that the Civil Aviation Organization mentioned for the IRGC air defense system’s mistake, including an error in the system’s installation that showed the north direction with a 107-degree difference, the question was raised that if this were the case, why did this air defense only target PS752 flight and did not make mistakes regarding the other aircraft?
In this statement, while raising other questions about the Civil Aviation Organization’s report, it was stated that this organization is a government body and since it is not independent, it is not qualified to investigate in this matter; because it has focused its attention on presenting the reasons put forward by the Islamic Republic regime.
The Association of Families of Victims of the Tehran to Toronto passenger plane, in continuation, regarding the latest report of Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization, stated: Creating a false narrative of “human error” and preparing this highly deficient report is a continuation of making a mockery of all international laws and conventions.
Hamed Esmailian, spokesman for the association of families of victims of flight PS752, who lost his wife and daughter in this tragedy, on Saturday, July 28, asked media outlets on Twitter to refrain from using the term “accident” to describe the IRGC’s action.
At the same time, Reuters news agency reported, citing Islamic Republic officials, that the aircraft’s black box was sent to France for investigation after months.
Early Wednesday morning, December 9, a Boeing 737 passenger aircraft of Ukraine International Airlines with 176 passengers on board was shot down by an IRGC air defense missile after taking off from an airport on the outskirts of Tehran. After a few days of Iranian officials’ insistence that the plane had crashed due to a technical defect, the IRGC finally announced that it had mistakenly targeted this aircraft.
Hamed Esmailian says the Iranian government should be held responsible. The downed Ukrainian flight had 55 Canadian citizens on board.
Earlier, the Canadian network CBC released an audio file that apparently shows that senior Iranian officials, at the time of the missile attack on a base hosting American forces in Iraq, left Iran’s airspace open to commercial flights to prevent the missile attack plan on Ain al-Asad base in Iraq from being exposed.
