Prison Authorities Continue to Deny Permission for ‘Arash Sadeqi’ to Be Transferred to Hospital

Despite the critical condition of Arash Sadeqi, this imprisoned political activist remains deprived of access to appropriate medical services.

Iran Human Rights Organization has reported Arash Sadeqi’s condition as “very critical” and stated that “failure to provide immediate hospital treatment could result in the loss of his life. The Leader of the Islamic Republic, Ali Khamenei, and the Head of the Judiciary, Ebrahim Raisi, are responsible for Arash Sadeqi’s health and must be held accountable.”

This political activist, who is imprisoned in Rajaei Shahr Prison in Karaj, has been diagnosed by physicians with a type of cancerous tumor called chondrosarcoma, yet his transfer to medical facilities outside the prison has been postponed once again.

One of Mr. Sadeqi’s relatives told Iran Human Rights Organization that “about 20 days ago, several officials went to the prison and witnessed Arash’s condition firsthand and verbally promised him that he would be transferred to the hospital in July. But a few days ago, they changed their story and said there will be no transfer until September.”

This informed source also said regarding Arash Sadeqi’s condition that “the swelling in Arash’s right hand has worsened compared to before, and it is swollen from his shoulder to his fingers. This swelling is more severe below the elbow. Arash’s hand has essentially become non-functional and does not move at all.”

Arash Sadeqi is currently serving his 15-year prison sentence for activities in the field of human rights. A few months ago, he was diagnosed with bone cancer.

Despite physicians confirming that he must be examined and monitored for treatment of his condition, Iranian judicial and security authorities are not allowing his examination and treatment to proceed.
