Continued Family Detentions; Mother of Civil Activist Saba Kordafshari Also Detained by Iranian Regime

The mother of Saba Kordafshari, a civil activist and opponent of mandatory hijab, has been arrested by security forces.
“Raheleh Ahmadi,” the mother of Saba Kordafshari who has been in detention for over a month, was arrested by security forces at her private residence on Wednesday, July 10.
According to available reports, this arrest was carried out to pressure her daughter Saba Kordafshari, who in recent weeks has faced pressure to participate in a television interview.
According to informed sources, Raheleh Ahmadi was informed of charges at the prosecution office today following her arrest on charges of “propaganda against the system,” “cooperation with hostile media,” and “encouraging and facilitating corruption and indecency.” After being transferred to the quarantine section of Qarchak Prison in Varamin, she was transferred to an unknown location.
According to existing reports, security agents told Raheleh Ahmadi that they would release her once Saba sits down to confess on camera.
On Tuesday, July 9, “Masih Alinejad,” journalist and women’s rights activist, posted a video of Saba Kordafshari’s mother on her Instagram page in which Ms. Ahmadi announces: “They want to extract a forced confession from my daughter. Iranian mothers, if you are afraid and stay silent, they will come after everyone.”
Saba Kordafshari, who was arrested on Saturday, June 1 when security forces came to her father’s residence in Tehran and was transferred to Qarchak Prison in Varamin, was transferred from Qarchak Prison in Varamin to an unknown location on Tuesday, July 2. It is reported that this transfer took place to continue interrogations and pressure this detainee for a television interview.
Saba Kordafshari, who is also considered an opponent of mandatory hijab, was sentenced to one year imprisonment after her arrest in August of last year, but was later released in February.
The U.S. State Department has repeatedly condemned the violent actions of the Islamic Republic regime against the Iranian people under various pretexts, including its treatment of freedom of choice in clothing, as well as the repeated and continuous violation of the rights of Iranian citizens by regime agents.
