Trump: US warship destroyed Iranian drone in Strait of Hormuz

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, has stated that an American warship destroyed an Islamic Republic drone near the Strait of Hormuz. Trump said in Washington that the drone had endangered the safety of the crew of the USS Boxer.

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, said on Thursday, July 27 (June 18) in Washington that an American warship destroyed an Islamic Republic drone near the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump added that this latest action was “hostile” on Iran’s part and that the Iranian drone did not heed the warnings.

The US President announced the news while attending a joint press conference with Mark Rutte, the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, at the White House.

He called on other countries to condemn Iran’s efforts to prevent freedom of navigation and free trade along the strategic waterway in the Persian Gulf.

Trump added that the defensive operation of the USS Boxer took place after the Iranian drone came within approximately one thousand yards of the warship and ignored the warnings. He said the drone “endangered the safety of the crew of the USS Boxer.”

The US President emphasized that the United States “reserves the right to defend its interests, forces, and equipment.”

Meanwhile, the Pentagon also announced the news with the release of a statement. In the Pentagon statement, it was stated that the US Navy shot down a drone.

According to Jonathan Hoffman, the Pentagon spokesperson, the incident occurred in the morning on Thursday (local time).

Tensions that have existed between Iran and the United States for months have escalated in recent weeks. On Thursday, June 20 (June 20), Iran fired at an American drone and shot it down.

The United States claims that the drone never entered Iranian airspace and that the American drone was targeted and shot down while flying over international waters. Iran had stated in this regard that the American drone had entered Iranian airspace.

Donald Trump prevented the implementation of retaliatory military operations at the last moment.
