Narges Mohammadi Transferred from Prison to Hospital for Surgery

The family of Narges Mohammadi, a human rights activist, says she has been transferred from Evin Prison to a hospital “under custody.”
Taghi Rahmani, Ms. Mohammadi’s husband, announced the news on his Twitter page on Tuesday, writing that Narges Mohammadi “should have undergone surgery to remove the uterus since last year according to the opinion of specialist doctors in pulmonology and gynecology.”

Previously, Narges Mohammadi’s defense lawyer emphasized that his client should undergo uterine surgery as soon as possible based on the opinion of specialist doctors.
Narges Mohammadi has been sentenced to a total of 16 years in prison on charges of “assembly and conspiracy against the system,” “propaganda against the system,” and launching the Legam campaign (Stop Executions One Step at a Time).
Her heaviest sentence is 10 years in prison in connection with the Legam campaign, which according to Islamic criminal law means the longest sentence should be served, not the total of all sentences.
Ms. Mohammadi’s lawyer says his client has served approximately seven years of her 10-year sentence and should be eligible for conditional release.
