Victims of Shandiz Phenomenon Gather Outside Courthouse Building in Tehran

Following several gatherings held in recent weeks in Mashhad, victims of the Shandiz Phenomenon gathered this time outside the courthouse building in Tehran.

Images and videos sent to Voice of America indicate that victims of the Shandiz Phenomenon institute gathered on Sunday, April 28, demanding action from the judiciary and government to receive their claims.

Shandiz Phenomenon is a company that was formed to transform several villages and seasonal areas into a tourist zone around Mashhad based on a comprehensive plan, but it proceeded with illegal land use conversion without obtaining necessary permits during the presidency of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Companies affiliated with the Shandiz company illegally sold shares without backing and attempted to raise the stock price of Shandiz, which was halted after some time with judicial intervention.

Recent protest gatherings by Shandiz victims have remained unanswered by Islamic Republic officials.
