Insulting Language by Representative to Acid Attack Victim Woman: You Got Lucky That Only One Side of Your Face Was Damaged

Following the attendance of a group of acid attack victims in parliament during the review of a bill to increase penalties for acid attacks, the discourse of one of the parliament’s representatives once again sparked controversy, this time in front of one of the acid attack victims.
IRNA news agency reported on the controversies surrounding the presence of acid attack victims in parliament on Sunday, Ordibehesht 29, that “Zahra Saeidi”, representative of the people of Mobarakeh in parliament, said to “Marzieh Ebrahimi”, whose half of her face suffered severe injuries during the acid attacks in Isfahan (jokingly): “You were lucky to escape the perpetrator and only one side of your face was damaged! What happened to the acid attack perpetrator?”
Marzieh Ebrahimi, who is also from Isfahan, responded to this representative saying that “I am truly sorry that you are Isfahan’s representative and don’t know that the perpetrators of the Isfahan acid attack incident have not yet been identified, and you’re telling me I got lucky!”
The representative of Mobarakeh’s people continued by addressing Ebrahimi and other victims present in parliament, informing them of the “execution” proposal in the bill to increase acid attack penalties proposed by representatives, and told the victims that they think you want the same thing.
However, Marzieh Ebrahimi, one of the acid attack victims in Isfahan, replied to this representative that they do not want the execution of perpetrators but rather seek to “stop the cycle of violence”.
According to Iranian domestic news agencies, representatives in a bill reviewed on Sunday, Ordibehesht 29, are seeking restrictions on acid purchases and increased penalties for acid attacks up to execution.
In the autumn of 1394, acid attacks on young Isfahan women shocked the city’s residents. The continuation of acid attacks and the failure to identify the perpetrators, along with reports that acid attack perpetrators were targeting women without full hijab, led to the holding of protest gatherings in Isfahan and Tehran.
A number of civil activists and protesters were arrested and tried during these gatherings.
