Ali Nejati, Member of Haft Tappeh Sugar Cane Workers Syndicate, Summoned

Ali Nejati, a retired worker and member of the board of directors of the Haft Tappeh Sugar Cane Workers Syndicate, who was released from prison on medical leave in February of last year, has been summoned to the Evin Prosecutor’s Office.

 

The Telegram channel of Kalame Rooz website reported on Thursday, May 16, that Ali Nejati, a member of the board of directors of the Haft Tappeh Sugar Cane Workers Syndicate, was summoned to the Evin Prosecutor’s Office through a phone call and text message from the Evin Prosecutor’s Office, Branch Seven, Interrogation Division of Shahid Moqaddasi. According to this report, Mr. Nejati must present himself to this branch within four days for final statements.

This labor activist was arrested on November 8 of last year at his home on charges of involvement in strikes by Haft Tappeh sugar cane workers, and after some time, on February 8 of the same year, due to having heart and respiratory diseases, he was released from prison on medical leave.

Last February, Amnesty International in a report called 2018 the “year of shame” for the Islamic Republic and announced that in that year more than seven thousand people, including protest participants, students, journalists, women’s rights activists, environmental activists, labor activists, and ethnic and religious minority rights activists, were arrested in Iran, and hundreds were sentenced to prison.

According to Amnesty International’s report, 467 workers were arrested in Iran in 2018.
