Khuzestan Citizen Arrested Following Protest Over Failure to Aid Flood Victims

A Khuzestan citizen named Khalaf Marvani was arrested while protesting the lack of aid to flood victims in his village and opposing the prevention of a dam break.

According to a report by the Campaign to Defend Political and Civil Prisoners, on Thursday, Farvardin 15, Khalaf Marvani, an Arab citizen from Marvanih village under the central district of Ahvaz, was arrested by security agencies in Ahvaz and transferred to an unknown location.

An informed source told the campaign: “Sheikh Khalaf Marvani, the chief of the Maravanih tribe in Ahvaz, was arrested while protesting the prevention of a dam break to his agricultural lands and the diversion of the dam break toward the Dehkhoda sugar company.”

In a similar incident, in the early hours of Wednesday, a group of residents from three villages of Sagur, Jalizi, and Shakeriyeh under Deshta-Azadegan in Khuzestan clashed with security forces and the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps. Ebood Jalizi, one of the injured in this clash, passed away yesterday at Apadin Hospital in Ahvaz.

Voice of America had previously published a report on this clash, but officials from the Revolutionary Guards denied any confrontation.
