Price Index in Tehran Shows 42 Percent Growth

Following the release of information about price increases for certain goods by the Statistical Center of Iran, the Tehran Province Management and Planning Organization announced that the price index in Esfand (the twelfth month of the Iranian calendar) compared to the same month last year has grown by more than 42 percent in Tehran.
According to a report published on the organization’s website, Masoud Afshin, Deputy Director of Statistics and Information at the organization, stated that households in Tehran Province have spent on average 42.6 percent more than in Esfand 1396 to purchase an “identical basket of goods and services.”
He also noted that the price index for meat and poultry has increased by 96 percent and the price index for tobacco products has grown by more than 111 percent.
Earlier, a report from the Statistical Center of Iran was released that reported severe increases in the prices of certain goods including tomato paste, apples, and tomatoes compared to last year.
On the other hand, the announcement of the meat price index comes as reports from some media outlets and news published on social networks suggest that increases in red meat and poultry have been greater than the figures announced by the government.
