Continued Detention of Economic Suspects in Iran; A Customs Director General Arrested

As part of the recent arrests by the Islamic Republic in connection with economic cases in Iran, the Ministry of Intelligence has announced the detention of one of the customs directors general.
Fars News Agency, close to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, reported on Wednesday, March 29, citing the Ministry of Intelligence, that “a number of employees, associates, brokers and a customs director general” have been arrested in a case titled “economic corruption.”
In recent months, the Iranian government has dealt with individuals under the banner of fighting economic disruptors and economic corruption, and has executed several people on the same charge.
Economic corruption cases have also increased in Iran. Recently, Mike Pompeo, the US Secretary of State, had tweeted about officials of the Islamic Republic, saying that instead of helping the people, they have engaged in corruption and have spent the people’s wealth on supporting terrorists.
