Families of Detained Kurdish Activists Gather in Sanandaj

The Kurdistan Human Rights Network website reported that on Sunday, March 26, families of several detained Kurdish activists in the cities of Sanandaj, Kamyaran, and Marivan held a protest gathering in front of the building of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Intelligence Organization in Sanandaj, demanding the immediate release of these individuals.
A person close to the family of one of the detainees told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network: “This gathering was organized with the leadership of the wives and women of the detainees’ families, and in their slogans they demanded information about the situation of the detainees and their release.”
According to this informed source, IRGC personnel made several attempts to disperse the crowd through intimidation, and ultimately by announcing that some of the detainees would be released on bail in the coming days, they called for the gathering to end.
Previously, Iran’s head of the judiciary stated that there are currently no “political prisoners” in Iran and Iran’s judicial system “has never prosecuted anyone merely for criticism.” This comes as dozens of political, civil, and social activists have been imprisoned in Iran in recent months.
