Professor Sadegh Zibakalam Sentenced to One Year in Prison Following Reports on Student Poisoning

Professor Sadegh Zibakalam has been sentenced to one year in prison for publishing reports about student poisoning incidents that occurred in recent months.

The poisoning of students across the country was an issue that sparked widespread reactions, and conflicting reports were published regarding it. Unfortunately, the system made no effort to investigate the causes behind these incidents.

Sadegh Zibakalam, a university professor and political analyst, was among those who reacted to the student poisonings and published reports about them. He has now been sentenced to one year in prison by Branch 1057 of Tehran’s Criminal Court Two.

According to this verdict issued on Sunday, July 2, 2023, by Branch 1057 of Tehran’s Criminal Court Two, Sadegh Zibakalam has been sentenced to one year in prison on charges of publishing falsehoods with the intent to disturb public opinion in cyberspace.

The issuance of unjust sentences against Iranian rights-seeking individuals, including professors, students, artists, civil activists, and innocent citizens, is occurring at a time when no case file has been opened against any system officials responsible for deliberate killings of people. Not only have cases not been filed, but their mistakes and errors have been attributed to citizens, followed by arrest, torture to extract forced confessions, death sentences, and execution of their verdicts.

The system’s injustices against the Iranian people have reached their end, and they themselves know they are in the final days of their rule. Their overthrow at the hands of the honorable and courageous people of Iran will soon be realized.
