Chicken Price Reaches 16,000 Tomans Per Kilogram in Iran

Continuing the recent price surge in Iran’s market, the price of one kilogram of chicken meat has reached 16,000 tomans.
Broumand Chaharayin, CEO of the National Union of Meat Poultry Farmers, told the Young Journalists Club on Tuesday, March 28 that today the price of each kilogram of live chicken at the farm gate is 10,200, ready-to-cook chicken at the slaughterhouse is 14,000, and retail prices are 15,500 to 16,000 tomans.
The sharp increase in the price of meat products in Iran, including chicken and lamb, began in early December of this year, with prices rising up to 40 percent compared to the same period last year.
Previously, some Islamic Republic officials cited the increase in meat smuggling as one of the reasons for the price increase, a claim that has been denied by law enforcement authorities. However, Iran’s judiciary has called for strict legal action against it.
